From the MD

As we are now well into 2012, we have seen vast developments and challenges within Mecrus Group, the most substantial of these being the opening of Parwan Valley Mushrooms in June this year.

This milestone saw the realisation of a long term vision for the Mecrus Group to develop a sustainable agricultural business within Australia.

Whilst the Mecrus Group is considered a diverse company, we have maintained a key focus on agribusiness, and the commissioning and operation of this significant production facility is an outstanding achievement and milestone.

In a climate where many view the manufacturing industry within Australia as uncompetitive it is important for companies to step up and demonstrate confidence for the people of Victoria and Australia as a whole.

I wish to thank the people of The Mecrus Group for their many years of assistance and persistence for the development of our vision for a sustainable agribusiness. This vision began realisation in 2005 with initial small scale growing trials utilising processed water from the Cobram Steam plant.

Success may have been small, but it was instrumental in establishing research projects to further explore the use of processed heat and water for agriculture.

Over time we have assisted many major companies through the involvement of our technical expertise in maintaining and operational contracts for significant food processing facilities, which allowed us to further develop and enhance our processes. These contracts helped us to appreciate the requirements in developing a state of the art and Australia's newest agricultural growing facility.

We will without doubt continue with this vision, dream and good work to allow Parwan Valley Mushrooms to provide long term sustainable employment and prosperity into the state of Victoria and the Bacchus Marsh regional area.

Mecrus has also faced a significant challenge regarding new Statutory Declarations introducing the carbon tax which was set to have a large impact on our business.

Over the last year our people have maintained a focus on operating to achieve our business objectives, and as the dust settles on the Carbon Tax we are now able to concentrate on our business at hand. This however will mean we need to consolidate and adapt our operations in to the future.
